Vietnam volleyball will dispatch the men's national team to take part in the continental club-level competition scheduled for mid-May this year in Indonesia.
The Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV) is preparing to send the men's national volleyball team to the 2026 AVC Champions League, especially since the current national champions, Biên Phòng have not registered to participate in this continental event.
Traditionally, Vietnam volleyball is allocated one spot by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) to join the Asian Men's Club Championship, provided the participating team is the national champion. However, clubs must fully finance their participation. Biên Phòng's absence has opened a reasonable alternative to use the national team to ensure Vietnam does not miss this important competition slot.
The decision to send the Vietnam men's volleyball team to the 2026 AVC Champions League is seen as aligned with professional development goals. The tournament gathers many of the continent’s top teams, offering players opportunities for competition, experience accumulation, and enhancing international competitive resilience—an essential factor for Vietnam men's volleyball at this stage.
In fact, this is not the first time the national team has participated in this event. At the 2025 AVC Champions League held in Japan, the Vietnam men's volleyball team competed under the name Sport Center 3 and finished in 9th place overall.
The 2026 AVC Champions League is expected to take place from May 13 to May 17 in Indonesia. This timing coincides with the period following the conclusion of the first round of the 2025 National Championship, allowing the Vietnam men's volleyball team to focus their efforts and participate without disrupting domestic competition schedules.
