The Thailand women's volleyball squad watched the Vietnam versus Indonesia game live to carefully get ready for their next rivals in SEA Games 33.
Two members of the Thailand women's national volleyball coaching staff were present at Indoor Stadium Huamark, Bangkok to watch the Vietnam versus Indonesia match this afternoon on 12/12.
They are Feng Kun - the legendary Chinese setter and wife of coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, along with outside hitter Onuma Sittirak - a member of the "legendary six" of Thai women's volleyball. Both watched the match attentively as these teams are likely to be the host's next opponents in the knockout stage.
The Vietnam women's volleyball team won this match 3-0 with the star player Trần Thị Thanh Thúy shining brightly, securing the top spot in the group. This also means Indonesia will face Thailand in the semifinals.
If no surprises occur, Thailand will meet Vietnam in the final of SEA Games 33, recreating the final matchups of the last three editions.
Thailand women's volleyball has dominated the SEA Games since 1989, and to date, the "Land of Smiles" team has won 14 consecutive gold medals. For Vietnam's women's volleyball, they have never stood on the top podium at the regional level - losing to Thailand in 11 finals.
SEA Games 33 features Vietnam competing with great enthusiasm, aiming for a historic achievement in this arena. The foundation for Thanh Thúy and her teammates to target the prestigious gold medal comes from their dramatic 3-2 victory in the second leg final of the SEA V.League. That was also the first time Vietnam's women's volleyball defeated Thailand in history (at the national team level).
It is unfortunate that this year in Thailand, Vietnam will miss Nguyễn Thị Bích Tuyền - a key player who helped secure the historic SEA V.League championship. However, with the strong form of Thanh Thúy and Bích Thủy, there is still a solid chance to cause an upset.
