Gunma Green Wings are presently without their star hitter Trần Thị Thanh Thúy as she is competing in SEA Games 33.
On December 6th, Gunma Green Wings faced Victorina Himeji in the Japanese National Volleyball Championship. This match was considered a significant challenge since the opponent is among the top teams in the standings and is regarded as stronger in both squad and performance.
In this match, Gunma Green Wings were missing their key attacker Trần Thị Thanh Thúy, who had returned to Vietnam to join the national team for SEA Games 33. The absence of this pillar led experts to predict that the team would face considerable difficulties against Victorina Himeji.
However, the events on the court told a different story. Gunma Green Wings’ hitters started aggressively, making good use of their defensive skills and continuously applying pressure with precise plays. Maintaining a steady pace, they closed the first set with a 25-18 win.
In the second set, Victorina Himeji tightened their lineup and created a tense point chase. Despite the opponent’s pressure, Gunma Green Wings stayed focused during crucial moments and secured a 28-26 win. The momentum carried on into the third set, where the team dominated completely, finishing the match 25-19 and sealing a 3-0 victory.
This marks Gunma Green Wings’ 11th win of the season, helping them maintain a safe position in the rankings. After the match, the players took photos celebrating the victory with Thanh Thúy’s number 16 jersey. Wearing her shirt during the celebration demonstrated the team’s unity and highlighted the important role of the Vietnamese attacker despite her absence on the court.
This gesture is also seen as a message of encouragement sent from afar by Gunma Green Wings’ teammates and coaching staff to Thanh Thúy, who is currently focused with the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team preparing for matches at SEA Games 33.
