Trần Thị Thanh Thúy stands as the leading star of Vietnam’s women’s volleyball squad at the upcoming SEA Games 33 in Thailand.
Outside hitter Trần Thị Thanh Thúy has returned to Vietnam and joined the national team after recently competing with Gunma Green Wings in the Japanese Women's Volleyball National Championship (SV.League) last weekend.
The first photos of Thanh Thúy during the final training sessions of the Vietnam women's volleyball team before departing for Thailand have widely circulated on social media. "4T" impressed fans with uniquely curled hair, surprising many supporters.
"Looks like a Japanese girl now, Thúy. Everything you do looks beautiful."
"That hairstyle looks strange to me, I prefer the old hair."
"Thúy, your new hair... now you look more Japanese than Vietnamese."
"Who convinced her to choose that hairstyle?"
"It's unusual but still pretty."
With Nguyễn Thị Bích Tuyền absent, Trần Thị Thanh Thúy is the top hope for the Vietnam women's volleyball team at this year's SEA Games. The "4T" carries a heavy responsibility as both the best scorer and the outside hitter with the most reliable reception skills.
This will be Thanh Thúy's sixth SEA Games; previously, she and the Vietnamese team earned 4 silver medals (2015, 2019, 2022, 2023) and 1 bronze (2017). The experience of this VTV Bình Điền Long An player will be extremely valuable as the national team aims for at least a silver medal, possibly even dreaming of a historic gold on Thai soil.
Before returning home, Trần Thị Thanh Thúy has been in excellent form playing for Gunma Green Wings in the Japanese National Championship. She is the team's second-highest scorer after Olivia Rozanski, having scored over 200 points and ranking among the top 15 point scorers in the league. The 28-year-old outside hitter was also honored to be selected for this season's All-Star team, alongside stars like Yoshino Sato, Yukiko Wada, and Nootsara Tomkom, among others.
Volleyball at SEA Games 33 will take place from December 10 to December 19. Thanh Thúy and her teammates will head to Thailand soon to prepare for their opening match against Myanmar on December 10.
