The Vietnam Volleyball Federation plans to change the competition format for the 2026 National Championship.

The 2026 National Volleyball Championship is being examined by the Vietnam Volleyball Federation alongside the expert teams from the Department of Sports before finalizing the official rules.

The 2026 National Volleyball Championship is being reviewed by the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and the specialized units of the Department of Sports prior to the release of the official regulations. Key details about the competition format are being carefully discussed to ensure they fit the actual conditions and the teams' professional plans.

According to the information under consideration, the tournament will continue to be organized in two phases. Both men’s and women’s teams will compete in round-robin matches in each phase to accumulate ranking points. Each phase consists of seven matches, totaling 14 matches throughout the group stage.

The match results will serve as the basis for determining which teams advance to the finals and which must participate in the relegation playoffs. Maintaining the round-robin format but increasing the number of matches compared to the 2025 season is seen as providing teams with more playing opportunities and reducing early predictability of outcomes.

In the 2025 season, each team only played seven group stage matches due to a shortened schedule with an unbalanced two-phase division. In 2026, the schedule will be more complete to increase players’ competitive exposure and help organizers accurately assess each team’s form over a longer competition period.

Federation of Volleyball Vietnam has also confirmed 16 teams participating in the 2026 season. The women’s group includes VTV Bình Điền Long An, Ninh Bình, Thông tin - Đông Bắc, Vietinbank, Hóa chất Đức Giang Lào Cai, Thanh Hóa, Hưng Yên, and Hà Nội. The men’s group features Biên Phòng MB, Thể Công Tân Cảng, Công an TPHCM, Ninh Bình, Hà Nội, Đà Nẵng, Sanest Khánh Hòa, and TPHCM. This list was finalized after the conclusion of the 2025 domestic competitions.

The regulations are expected to be sent to teams at the beginning of 2026 to assist with personnel preparation and professional planning. Đông Anh Arena (Hanoi) is considered the venue for the first round. The second round will be split between two locations, with the men’s group playing in Ho Chi Minh City and the women’s group competing in Vĩnh Long. This venue division is designed to align with facility conditions and the increased number of matches.

The 2026 tournament will likely continue to allow each team to register up to two foreign players, but only one may be on the court at the same time. This rule was implemented last season to ensure competitive balance among teams.

The finalization of the regulations is in its last phase and will be officially announced once all relevant parties reach consensus on the entire content.
