A very straightforward match for Gabi and her teammates.
The Brazil women's volleyball team secured a comfortable 3-0 victory (25-18; 25-16; 25-16) over Greece in their opening match of the 2025 World Championship, which concluded tonight on August 22nd, Vietnam time.
Facing a lower-ranked opponent, Brazil's superior quality completely dominated the European representative. In the first set, Brazil quickly took the lead early on, consistently maintaining a 4-5 point advantage over Greece before accelerating strongly in the final points to take the set 1-0.
There were not many surprises from Greece in the second set due to the skill gap between the two sides. Gabi Guimaraes and her teammates quickly pulled away with a large lead from the start, and the diverse fast-paced combinations from the South American team proved too difficult to counter.
Brazil even had an easier time in the third set, scoring a streak of 5 consecutive points mid-set to extend the lead into double digits. Greece’s efforts only allowed them to reach double digits in this set, ultimately accepting a heavy defeat in their second appearance at the most prestigious international volleyball competition at the national team level.
Gabi was Brazil’s brightest star in this match with 17 points (15 attacks, 2 aces), followed by Julia Bergmann (16 points), Kisy Nascimento (10 points), and Julia Kudiess (8 points). On the other side, Martha Anthouli was Greece’s top scorer with 18 points and the only player from Greece to score more than 10 points.
This victory puts Brazil at the top of Group C, tied with France at 3 points but leading on set ratio. In the next match, Gabi and her teammates will face France directly.
