Vietnam women’s volleyball team ready to make their mark on the global stage

The Vietnamese women’s volleyball team has stated they are composed and well-prepared to take on powerful rivals at the 2025 World Championship in Thailand.

The Vietnamese women’s volleyball team is working hard in preparation for their first-ever appearance at the 2025 World Championship. After months of intense training and a packed competition schedule, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his players have gained valuable experience from international tournaments such as the 2025 AVC Nations Cup (champions), the 2025 VTV Cup (runners-up), and the 2025 SEA V.League (runners-up in the first leg, champions in the second leg). This impressive series of achievements has provided a strong morale boost ahead of the biggest event of the year.

Just before the tournament, the team also played friendly matches against Spain and Kenya, both physically strong and experienced teams from Europe and Africa. Although these matches were primarily for testing, they helped Thanh Thuy and her teammates adapt to diverse tactics, faster pace, and higher pressure—factors they are certain to encounter again at the World Championship.

Nevertheless, the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team faces a significant setback as opposite hitter Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen withdrew at the last minute. The absence of this powerful attacker has impacted the team’s offensive strength.

However, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet assured that the team already has backup plans. He emphasized that both Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh and Vi Thi Nhu Quynh are fully capable of filling this role, as they have repeatedly demonstrated their effectiveness at both the club and national levels.

“The Vietnamese women’s volleyball team is a close-knit group with many versatile players. Therefore, whenever a position is vacant, the coaching staff is always prepared with alternative solutions,”coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet shared.

He also highly praised his players’ progress, while preparing various tactical options to cope with tough opponents such as Poland (world No. 3), Germany (No. 11), and Kenya, a team that did not show its full strength in the recent friendly match.

In the 4-0 friendly win over Kenya, coach Tuan Kiet surprisingly tested Vi Thi Nhu Quynh at opposite hitter instead of Kieu Trinh. Although she was new to the role, Nhu Quynh performed solidly, offering hope for a new alternative. Earlier, in the second leg of the 2025 SEA V.League, the 2002-born player shone brightly, helping the team come from behind against Thailand and earning the “Best Outside Hitter” award.

On August 20, the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team departed for Phuket, Thailand. The team will have three days to train and adapt to the venue and weather conditions before officially opening their campaign against Poland on August 23.
