This year, Canadian players are experiencing a surge; is the Masters title for Shapovalov far off?

The Cincinnati Masters is progressing vigorously, and the recently finished Montreal 1000 event saw local talent Mboko excel, facing off against four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka without hesitation, ultimately pulling off a surprise victory to earn the prestigious championship trophy at a young age.

When it comes to Canadian players, this year’s performance has indeed been explosive, with a combined total of 8 titles won so far this season.

Auger-Aliassime with 2 titles (Adelaide, Montpellier)

Shapovalov with 2 titles (Dallas, Los Cabos)

Historically, when mentioning Canadian players, these two stars are always at the forefront, yet their development in recent years has not lived up to their early promise.

Auger-Aliassime has struggled to break through in finals, finally finding success against Tsitsipas. Shapovalov, on the other hand, clinched a title back in 2019 at the Stockholm Open, but his other performances, such as reaching the semifinals at Wimbledon and being a runner-up at a Masters event, have not matched the expectations of a prodigious talent.

However, both players have made significant strides in consistency this season, each securing two tour titles. Auger-Aliassime took advantage of early-season opportunities, winning consecutive 250 events; Shapovalov also triumphed at the upgraded Dallas event, claiming the highest-level title of his career thus far.

Given time, if they maintain their form, a Masters title should be an attainable goal for them.

Dabrowski with 1 title (Stuttgart)

Diallo with 1 title (S-Hertogenbosch)

In the past, these two were virtually absent from discussions. However, during the grass season, they both delivered the best performances of their careers, each capturing a title and proving their capability to establish themselves on the tour.

Andreescu + Auger-Aliassime with 1 title (Hopman Cup)

Not only in individual competitions but also in team events, the combination of a Grand Slam champion and a Masters runner-up has brought another title to the maple leaf country.

Fernandez with 1 title (Washington)

Once regarded as a top contender alongside Raducanu in the US Open final, she has finally seen the light, ultimately defeating Kalinskaya to secure a title that matches her talent and reputation.

Mboko with 1 title (Montreal)

This victory by the young Black athlete is comparable to Andreescu's stunning win over Serena Williams at the US Open. One wonders if another talented young woman will emerge in the new era of women's tennis competition.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Luo Cheng Qiye)
