Coco Gauff revealed that she has deleted Twitter, as she has become engrossed in a reality show and decided to forgo mixed doubles to focus her energy.

Following her decisive win against Wang Xinyu in the second round of the Cincinnati tournament, Gauff shared at the post-match press conference that she had removed Twitter, explaining that she was too absorbed in a U.S. reality show. Furthermore, she clarified her reason for not participating in the mixed doubles at the US Open, emphasizing her desire to concentrate on her singles results without distractions.

Gauff mentioned that after the French Open final this year, she became very captivated by the American reality show "Love Island." Additionally, she expressed her fondness for the upcoming series "The Summer I Got Beautiful," which has significantly impacted her training. Moreover, she stated that the tennis gossip on Twitter has also become a "culprit," as she enjoys reading those posts and bizarre news too much.

“I got too hooked! The constant switching between different apps made me hit the pause button. The tennis Twitter sphere is filled with various updates; you know, there are the gossip about this show and tennis-related news, then 'The Summer I Got Beautiful' appeared, and although I've never watched that show, I found myself engrossed in it!” Gauff's candid remarks elicited laughter from the audience, reflecting a more relatable and genuine side of the star athlete.

After winning the French Open, Gauff faced defeat against Wang Xinyu in her debut at Berlin and suffered a surprising first-round loss to Yastremska at Wimbledon. She was also eliminated early in Montreal. Although she has reached the round of 32 in Cincinnati, issues with double faults and unforced errors from the baseline remain prominent. Therefore, reducing social media distractions has become a necessary strategy to ensure her success in the North American hard court season.

In response, a netizen commented, “She’s not the first player to be driven crazy by Tennis Twitter. Last time, Tsitsipas said that fans analyzed his racket changes more meticulously than he did, and he deleted his account overnight!” Clearly, for athletes, shielding themselves from social media is crucial to avoid distractions during training and matches, as well as to prevent excessive investment of energy in social media that could impact their performance.

Meanwhile, Gauff also discussed the upcoming US Open, noting that this year she is the only player in the women's singles top ten who hasn't signed up for mixed doubles. She explained her reasoning for this decision.

She indicated that part of the reason stems from commercial requirements, as she has reached an agreement with her sponsors. She also admitted that she is a very competitive player; if she loses, it makes her unhappy. Thus, she prefers not to waste mental energy on mixed doubles and wants to devote herself fully to singles competition.

Sports business analyst Mark Thompson commented, “Gauff's choice highlights the awareness of Generation Z athletes—you must understand the value of your attention every minute. When mixed doubles could impact the substantial prize money and performance stipulations of the US Open, focusing on singles is a rational choice.”

From the emotional moment at 15 when she was embraced by Naomi Osaka at the US Open to now holding two Grand Slam trophies as a top player, Gauff's growth has always involved meticulous management of her life. Deleting Twitter and opting out of mixed doubles may seem like a form of "decluttering," but in reality, it is a precise investment in her career development!
