This year, the prize money for the US Open has skyrocketed to a record high! Truly a luxurious Grand Slam.

The final Grand Slam event of the year—the US Open Tennis Championships—announced a record total prize pool on Wednesday, August 6, setting the tone for the upcoming competition. The United States Tennis Association (USTA) revealed that this year's total prize money will reach $90 million, a 20% increase from last year's ($75 million in 2024).

This is not only the highest prize money in tennis history, but the champions of the men's and women's singles will also receive the largest prizes ever in the sport. According to the prize distribution announced by the event, the singles champions will earn $5 million, a significant increase from last year's $3.6 million; even players eliminated in the first round will receive a guaranteed prize of up to $110,000.

The event organizers stated that after "strategic adjustments in the redistribution of early-round and qualifying round prize money over the years," all rounds and events of this year's tournament will see double-digit percentage increases in prize money.

Due to a surge in audience numbers, the singles events at the US Open will be extended to 15 days, running from August 24 to September 7. This year's mixed doubles will feature a completely new format, attracting many well-known singles players to participate. The event will take place a week before the main tournament, completed in two days, still at Flushing Meadows.

In addition to the prize money, the event also offers a $5 million support fund to reimburse players for hotel expenses, daily allowances, and racquet stringing services.

The draw for the 2025 US Open men's and women's singles main events will be announced on August 26.

Additionally, the 2025 US Open will launch its first-ever dating reality show titled "Game, Set, Matchmaker." The show will be broadcast on YouTube, aiming to expand the tournament's audience base.

The show will center around 24-year-old former figure skating champion Ilana Sederka, who will interact and date seven male guests, exploring the possibilities of future romances and hoping to find her ideal partner.

Sederka explained to The New York Times the promotional strategy the US Open is adopting through this show: "The US Open realizes that to attract new audiences and enter new fields, it must appear where the audience is. It's not about the audience chasing sports anymore; it's about us chasing the audience."

However, after the show's announcement, many fans expressed confusion over this move by the US Open and launched strong criticisms on social media. Despite the ongoing controversy, some commentators have voiced positive opinions, with former professional player Steve Johnson stating that this is a bold attempt by the US Open to incorporate entertainment elements and attract a broader audience, and he himself is willing to "see how the show turns out."(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Spark)
