Following his victory against Italian player Arnardi with a score of 6-7(5)/6-3/6-2 in the third round of the Toronto Masters, Zverev's tour record is 500 wins and 212 losses. He is presently the youngest active player to reach this historic record.
Although Zverev's career has not been without its challenges, his journey through setbacks and recovery has shaped a career that showcases both success and resilience—he has now achieved 500 tour victories.
In 2021, he captured six titles in a single season for the first time in his career, including a second ATP Finals title. At that time, this talented young player seemed to be nearing his peak form. However, in the spring of the following year, during a fierce French Open semifinal against Rafael Nadal, Zverev suffered a severe ankle injury and was wheeled off the court in pain. He subsequently underwent surgery, embarking on a long and uncertain road to recovery.
Since his return in 2023, Zverev has increased his total career titles to 24 and reached two Grand Slam finals, firmly reestablishing himself among the elite players.
Recently, at the Rogers Cup held in Toronto, he defeated Matteo Arnaldi with a score of 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2, becoming the fifth active male player to achieve 500 victories and ranking seventh for the fastest to reach this milestone in this century.
The path to this milestone has been filled with some of the most significant stages and brightest moments in tennis. From his early breakthrough at the 2018 ATP Finals—where he defeated Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to win the title—to winning a gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Zverev has long proven himself to be among the elite players.
Zverev is the third German to achieve 500 wins in the Open Era, following the retired Boris Becker (713 wins, 214 losses) and Tommy Haas (569 wins, 338 losses). Currently, Zverev remains the leading figure in modern German tennis.
The severe injuries in 2022 were a significant blow to Zverev's career. However, his response deepened the respect he earned on the tour. That year, the then 25-year-old player reached the semifinals in Paris, achieving his career-high ATP ranking of No. 2, but due to injury, he did not compete again that year, finishing the season ranked 12th.
The road to recovery in 2023 was challenging; he exited in the second round of the Australian Open, but Zverev gradually regained his rhythm. He returned to the French Open semifinals, won titles in Hamburg and Chengdu, and qualified for the season-ending Finals for the sixth time.
In 2024, Zverev had one of the most comprehensive seasons of his career, reaching the French Open final for the first time and winning two ATP Masters 1000 titles, bringing his total Masters titles in the Open Era to seven, tying for eighth place.
Last November, Zverev won his seventh ATP Masters 1000 title in Paris.
In last year's French Open final, Zverev felt the impact of the new generation in tennis, losing a five-set battle to 21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz. Eight months later, at the 2025 Australian Open, Zverev reached his third Grand Slam final—this time losing to Jannik Sinner, as the two quickly become a new generation rivalry in the top tier of tennis.
Nevertheless, Zverev remains one of the most anticipated players on the tour.
Despite Alcaraz and Sinner dominating the past seven Grand Slam titles, Zverev continues to prove that he can compete at the highest level. He is still one of only three players to have defeated both of them in Grand Slam events, demonstrating his ability to challenge the top players, regardless of the generation.
Reaching the 500-win milestone places Zverev alongside Novak Djokovic, Marin Cilic, Gael Monfils, and Stan Wawrinka as active players who have achieved this feat. At 28, Zverev is the youngest among them, with Cilic being seven years older.
From the era dominated by Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Djokovic to the new wave led by Sinner and Alcaraz, Zverev has carved out his own niche: consistently competitive, stable, and continuously improving. With 24 tour titles, three Grand Slam finals appearances, an Olympic gold medal, two year-end Finals championships, and now 500 victories, his career reflects years of sustained excellence at the highest level of competition.
Having traveled through numerous ups and downs, there is still hope for many exciting chapters in his career. As some fans say: there is still belief that he will have his day of great achievements!
