Kyrgios on Djokovic: I think he will retire soon.

The question of when Novak Djokovic, a highly discussed figure in tennis, will retire has been a hot topic among fans. Recently, Nick Kyrgios revealed behind-the-scenes conversations with Djokovic on the podcast "All on the Table," stating, "I think he will retire soon," and suggesting that the other’s tennis career might be less than a year long.

As a legend in men's tennis, Djokovic has been competing for 23 years. Now at 38, whether he will hang up his racket like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer has become a focal point of public attention. The conversation shared by Kyrgios offers a glimpse into the possibility of this legend nearing retirement.

During the Indian Wells Open this year, Kyrgios asked Djokovic in the locker room:

“Why are you still here? Why are you still playing?”

The only response he received was, “I don’t know.”

When family was mentioned, Kyrgios said, “I asked him, ‘What about your kids? I know you want to spend more time with your family,’ and he still said, ‘Yeah, I don’t know.’”

In Kyrgios's view, this was the first time Djokovic expressed a deep longing for his family—being a friend who has always kept in touch, he can sense the change in the other’s mindset.

Kyrgios further analyzed:

“I can’t see him playing for more than another year; it’s impossible for him to play a full season again. He is very professional, but if I had a family and kids like him, based on my feelings, I wouldn’t keep playing.”

He also cited Andy Murray as an example, “Just like Andy Murray, who played his whole life, but after retiring, he didn’t have time to stay at home and went straight to coaching. If I were Andy’s partner, I would be very upset!”

In fact, Djokovic himself has hinted at possible retirement plans. After losing in the semifinals at the French Open, he told the audience, “This might be my last match here—I don’t know. That’s why I get more emotional at the end.”

When pressed further, he admitted, “Twelve months at this stage of my career is a long time. I want to keep playing, but can I come back here to compete in twelve months? I don’t know.”

Currently, Djokovic remains a frontrunner in the ATP Turin Finals rankings, and the race for his 25th Grand Slam title continues. However, based on his statements and the details revealed by Kyrgios, this tennis legend may indeed be approaching the end of his career.
