Andy Roddick said Sinner was the first player to go toe-to-toe against Djokovic and win

Andy Roddick believes Sinner is the first "straight and hard" Djokovic he's ever seen – a tactic that proved to be effective.

In a high-quality semi-final at the French Open, Sinner won 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(3) and the match lasted three hours and 16 minutes.

Djokovic remained passive on the baseline and tried to maximise his service advantage.

Former Grand Slam champion Roddick said after watching the matchup in Paris:

"It's the first time I've seen someone stand up to him straight up. Sinner is the first person I've ever seen do this. Even if Alcaraz beats him, he will rely on short balls and quick attacks, and his style of play is more varied. It's the first time I've seen someone snatch the middle of the court from Deyo again and again – not a game, not a set, but a way for Deyo to try to stay away from the centre of the court, which is his comfort zone. No one could toughen him, but Sinner could, and he did. ”

In fact, for the first time in his career, Sinner has taken the lead in the head-to-head record against Djokovic, currently recording 5:4.

Sinner is now on a 20-match winning streak and has won four of his last five matches against Djokovic.

He hit 44 winning points and made only 36 unforced errors; Deyo, on the other hand, had 9 fewer winning points and 17 more unforced errors.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Deyo said:

"I was under a lot of pressure all the time, he didn't give me time to swing the racket, he kept pressing the line and forcing me to keep defending. He deserves high praise for withstanding the pressure at crucial moments, especially when the crowd was cheering. He was able to hit high-quality shots on the handicap, showing why he is the world number one. ”

Tim Henman has a similar view to Roddick about Sinner's "perfect play".

In an interview with TNT Sports, he said:

With 128 players in the men's and women's singles draws each, it was the two world top two who qualified for the final, which was special, and Sinner played flawlessly, taking control of the situation from the baseline and taking the opportunity to hit the ball.

Djokovic did his best to equalise in the second set, and he certainly had bright moments, but Sinner's pace and agility were once again impressive. When Deyo got the set, he made a decisive shot, but Sinner remained offensive and made a decisive shot, allowing Deyo to go on the defensive. It was an amazing show.

……

The victory brought Sinner to his first French Open final against defending champion Alcaraz on Sunday.

This is the first time the two have faced off in the final of a Grand Slam event.

Who will win the French Open?
