12 months championship drought! Swiatek: That's not what I wanted

"Women's tennis is currently in an era of lack of superstars, and there were players such as Sharapova and Serena Williams, who were very influential superstars at that time, and they were super well-known and world-famous."

"But for now, in the case of Swiatek, she's a standout player, a four-time French Open winner, and she's undoubtedly a top player on a technical level, but being a superstar means more than just being a great tennis player."

Tennis legend Mouratoglou said in a recent interview with the media that in a recently concluded French Open women's singles semi-final, defending champion Swiatek lost to top seed Sabalenka 6-7 6-4 0-6, and failed to win the French Open for the fourth time in a row.

Throughout the match, the collapse of the former women's singles world number one in the deciding set was a little surprising to fans, with the impression that Swiatek had always been used to giving "eggs" to other players, but her service win rate of only 34% and 19 unforced errors in the deciding set made the Polish star swallow a bitter egg.

After Swiatek missed out on the French Open, she defended her title and moved to No. 7 in the world rankings after losing huge points, having been ranked No. 1 last year and for more than 100 weeks.

Swiatek has not won a title since winning the French Open last year, and the best result for the Pole in the 15 tournaments she competed in after last year's French Open (including the women's singles event at Paris 2024) was only a runner-up finish in this year's United Cup.

With a third-round defeat to Putintseva at Wimbledon 2024, a fifth-round loss to Pegula at the 2024 US Open, a loss to Keys in the semifinals of this year's Australian Open, and a loss to Sabalenka in the semifinals of the French Open, Swiatek's title drought continues.

In fact, looking back at Swiatek's overall performance on clay this year, it was quite a surprise that she was able to reach the semi-finals of the French Open, she failed to reach the semi-finals in Stuttgart, Gauff was eliminated in the semi-finals in Madrid (three consecutive defeats), and Roma lost to Collins early. Therefore, five consecutive wins at the French Open are relatively good, but the outside world still has higher expectations for the quadruple winner of Roland Garros.

'It's not the result I wanted, I'll rest for a few days, but the coaches will arrange it and hopefully we can do some decent pre-match preparation on the grass...... I just want to try to do my job right now and focus on making progress and learning new things on the grass. "We look forward to seeing Swiatek do well on the grass courts!(Source: Tennis House Author: Barbie)
