Last night's French Open was played in the third round of the bottom half. There were no upsets in the eight matches, and all of them were big seeds.
Third seed Alcaraz beat Dzuch 6-1, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Unexpectedly, De Zuch won the third set.
Eighth seed Musetti defeated Argentina's Navone 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. Navone gave his all in the first set and had a lot of momentum. But Musetti played steadily, winning three sets in a row to advance to the fourth round.
10th seed Rune defeated France's Harris 4-6, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.
At present, the only places that can compete with Alcaraz in the second half are Musetti and Rune. In the next round, Musetti will face Rune, and the winner will secure a place in the quarter-finals.
The other players in the bottom half of the bracket to advance to the round of 16 are: Paul (12), Shelton (13), Tiafoe (15), Popelin (25) and Altmaire. All three American players advanced in straight sets. Paul is on the verge of 200 career wins. Germany's Altmaier is the only unseeded player to advance to the fourth round.
Musetti played against Rune and had a head-to-head record of 0:2.
Tiafoe vs. Altmaier, head-to-head record 2:0.
Paul vs. Popelin, head-to-head record 1:1.
Alcaraz vs. Sheldon, head-to-head record 2:0. Sheldon hasn't picked up a set from Alcaraz.
