Djokovic, who won his 100th career ATP Tour title in Geneva last week, travelled to Paris to join Federer and Murray at the French Open tribute to Nadal. On match day, Djokovic kicked off his campaign at the Philippe Chartier Stadium, where he won the men's singles gold medal last year. No. 11 seed Medvedev lost to Norrie in five sets and suffered a first-round out, becoming the most seeded player to go out of the men's singles tournament that day. Dimitrov, the 16th seed, retired injured while leading 6-2, 6-3, 2-6, and his opponent Quinn was lucky to advance.
In addition, No. 3 seed Zverev, No. 5 seed Draper, No. 9 seed De Minaur, No. 17 seed Rublev, No. 19 seed Mensik and homegrown veteran Monfils all advanced to the next round.
