French Open Women's Singles Draw Analysis: Who Are the Biggest Winners and Biggest Losers?

The tour's top players are making final preparations for the upcoming French Open, where Sabalenka and Gauff will be the top two seeds in this year's French Open. Sabalenka reached the quarter-finals in Rome, while Gauff narrowly missed out on the title in the final.

Defending champion Swiatek will compete at the French Open as the fifth seed. She has had a mediocre season and headed straight to Paris to prepare for the French Open after exiting in the third round of Rome. The French Open women's singles draw was announced on Thursday, and here are the biggest winners and losers analysed based on this year's draw.

Gauff drew the lottery

Gauff, who finished runners-up in Madrid and Rome back-to-back this year, drew a relatively comfortable draw. She will likely face Gadeki and Pakai in the first two rounds, both of whom exited early in Madrid and Rome.

She may face some tough opponents after that, such as Karinskaya and Kryjcikova. Judging by her current form on tour and her results this season, it won't be difficult for her to overcome these opponents on clay.

If Gauff makes it through to the first four rounds, she could face either Keith or Navarro in the quarter-finals, and while she has a disadvantaged head-to-head record against both players, she has beaten them on tour as well.

In the semifinals, the 21-year-old could face either Mila Andreeva or Pegula. However, considering the opponent's past record in Paris, Gauff still has a slight advantage. Gauff needs to be ready for her toughest fight at the French Open, which is the final. She will most likely face either Sabalenka or Swiatek, who recently beat Gauff in Madrid.

Swiatek will face a number of tough opponents

Gauff secured a decent draw in Paris, but Swiatek struggled to defend his title. The Polish will face Slamkova in the first round and could face Raducanu in the second round. While Raducanu has shown some signs of recovery on tour, she will need to improve her form to pose a threat to Swiatek on clay.

Swiatek may then meet Kostyuk and Ostapenko. She has never won in the last six meetings with Ostapenko and lost again in Stuttgart this year.

In the quarter-finals, Swiatek could face either Paolini or Svitolina. Paulini has just won the title in Roma and is in excellent form.

If Swiatek can break through, she could likely face Sabalenka or Zheng Qinwen in the semifinals, and although she has the best record against them, she also lost to them last year.

Considering Swiatek's current form on the tour, her draw for the 2025 French Open will indeed be very tough. Not only could she face Sabalenka in the semi-finals, but she could also face Gauff in the final, who recently swept past Swiatek 6-1 6-1 in Madrid.(Source: Tennis Home Author: Spark)
