Both Alcaraz and Sinner will make their title debut at the Rome Masters. This will be the 11th meeting between Alcaraz and Sinner – and the first of the year. Alcaraz leads the head-to-head record of 6-4 and have won the last three meetings between the two sides (all in 2024).
In the semi-finals, Alcaraz defeated eighth seed Musetti 6-3, 7-6(4), while Sinner beat 11th seed Paul 1-6, 6-0, 6-3. In his post-match interview after the win over Musetti, Alcaraz spoke about the possibility of a showdown with the world number one (Sinner).
"Honestly, it could have been great. Who knows? He's playing really well, I've been watching him and he's playing at a really high level at the moment. ”
Alcaraz told the media:
Every time I play against him it's a tough fight, very, very tough. I also enjoy these moments. But if you play against him in the final, play on his home turf and have a crowd to support him, the challenge will be even greater. It's going to be a very tough challenge, but we'll see. Whoever wins tonight [Sinner and Paul] deserves to be in the final, so it's going to be a tough fight.
Alcaraz was also asked about Musetti calling him the favourite to win the French Open. In this regard, Alcaraz said:
"It's great that a top 10 player like Lorenzo thinks I'm a favorite at the French Open. I've said it many times that I don't want to think about it. All I can say is that I feel good and confident now. Yes, I would love to go to the French Open, enjoy the tournament and play in Paris. ”
Alcaraz has become low-key!
Alcaraz, who will return to world No. 2 after Rome, assessed his form after reaching the final:
I always say it could have been better. Obviously, I'm trying to improve every day, every game, after every training session. I see this as an opportunity to get better and keep improving. I would say I'm ready for the final and I'm excited to reach the final for the first time in Rome. I had a lot of confidence, I felt good and I played the ball well. Of course it could be better, and hopefully in the final I can approach the game the right way and play better. But now I'm very happy with my level of performance and I've improved since the start of the event.
Sinner was banned for three months. During this period, Zverev and Alcaraz would have had a chance to replace Sinner as world No. 1. It's a pity that neither of them was able to do their best. However, Alcaraz's form is on a gradual upswing. Moreover, he won a first prize from Monte Carlo. There is reason to believe that he is approaching his best.
As for the opponent Sinner, he seems to be completely unaffected by the three-month ban and is in full form. He advanced to the final with just one set dropped in five matches (against Paul).
Whoever dies will see tomorrow's final.
