Born on January 21, 1982, Mahu recently announced that he will officially retire at the end of this season, and the 43-year-old French veteran has been playing for 25 seasons after officially turning professional in 2000.
Having won the junior Wimbledon men's singles title in 2000 and turning professional in the same year, Mahu did not perform as much as he had expected in singles, with his highest singles ranking at 37th on 5 May 2014.
He has won four ATP Tour singles titles, all at the 250 level, at the Dutch grass court in 2013, 2015 and 2016 and the Newport Open in 2013.
In contrast, Mahu has been much better in the men's doubles arena, having won his first ATP men's doubles title with Benneteu at the Metz Open in France in 2003, and has a total of 37 ATP men's doubles titles, including five Grand Slam doubles titles, and four Grand Slams:
Australian Open (2019 season, with Herbert)
French Open (2018/2021 with Herbert)
Wimbledon (2016 with Herbert)
US Open (2015 season, with Herbert)
On 6 June 2016, Mahu became world No. 1 in men's doubles for the first time, and he and Herbert are a standout men's doubles duo who have also won two ATP Finals men's doubles titles and seven Masters men's doubles titles.
Of course, when it comes to Mahu, it is impossible not to mention the two classic matchups of his career, namely the 2007 Queen's Cup quarter-final defeat of world No. 2 Rafael Nadal, and the 2010 Wimbledon first round with American star Isner for the longest match in tennis history of 11 hours and 5 minutes.
In the first round of Wimbledon that year, a long-set tie-breaker and weather interruptions kept the match going on for three days, before Isner won the match 6-4 3-6 6-7 7-6 70-68.
Isner and Mahu conceded 183 and 103 aces respectively in the match, and the tiebreaker alone took 8 hours and 11 minutes, which is undoubtedly the longest tiebreaker ever at Wimbledon.
After the match, the Wimbledon organizing committee also prepared an hour-long memorial ceremony for the pair, and Isner was knocked out by De Bakker in straight sets after being affected by the excessive consumption of the first round.
Mahu has faded out of singles in recent seasons as he has aged, with his last appearance at the ATP Men's Singles tournament coming in Miami 2021, where he lost to Zhuang Jisheng in the first round, and Men's Doubles at Wimbledon last year in the second round.(Source: Tennis House Author: Barbie)
