ATP Madrid Masters: Zverev reaches round of 16, defending champion Rublev is out

Ninth seed Dmitry Medvedev swept past Argentine qualifier J Cerundolo 6-2, 6-2 to reach the round of 16 at four consecutive Madrid Masters (not playing in 2022) against American Brandon Nakashima, who beat Italy's Corboli 7-5, 6-3.


American brother Fritz received his retirement from the tournament when he played 4-6, 7-5 against France's Bonzi, and Fritz won his 300th tour event, becoming the first active American male player and the 39th American player in the Open era to do so. Fritz's fourth-round opponent is No.14 seed Ruud, who knocked out 23rd seed Koda 6-3, 6-3.
