The 2025 Madrid Open WTA1000 is in full swing, and as the defending champion of this year's tournament, Swiatek sits in the bottom half of the tournament as the No. 2 seed, but when the draw just came out, many fans complained that it was an absolute draw.
According to the draw, after Swiatek's first-round bye, the potential opponents in the later rounds were Filipino teenagers Ella, Noskova, and Ostapenko, but as the tournament deepened, Swiatek eliminated Ella in the second round (successfully avenging the loss in Miami), and eliminated the No. 31 seed Noskova in straight sets in the third round, and will compete with No. 13 seed Schneider for a place in the women's singles quarterfinals.
No.13 seed Schneider swept Sevastova in just 44 minutes in the third round to advance to the round of 16 with two straight wins for the first time since this year's Australian Open.

The highly-watched Women's Doubles field also decided the latest round of 16 line-up, with two groups of Chinese Jinhua competing in Madrid this year, with Xu Yifan and Kichenok knocking out Panova/Stolar in the first round and third seeds Hsieh Shuwei/Ostapenko in the next round of the Challenger.
The other pair of Jinhua Wang Xinyu and Zheng Saisai did not show any more rounds against the famous pair of Maya/Sigmund, and soon went out with a score of 4-6 2-6, so far only Xu Yifan is still in the draw for this year's Madrid tournament (in the women's singles, Wang Xinyu and Zheng Qinwen both failed to qualify in the first match).
Jinhua Yuan Yue did not play in Madrid this week, but chose to play a relatively low-level tournament to find a feeling, and this strategic choice is actually the right one. She was seeded No. 2 in the Oelash 100K and had just reached the Women's Singles final with a narrow 4-6 6-1 7-6(5) win over Semenista in the semi-finals.
After 65 tournament points and $8,147 in prize money, Yuan Yue's world ranking (instant ranking) has returned to the top 100 and is currently ranked 97th, and she will next compete with the tournament's top seed Minnyon for the eventual title, compared to the latter's path to the top of the competition, which has been much smoother and has not lost a set.
Yuan Yue has played Minnion twice before, at the WTA 250 Guangzhou in 2024 and the WTA 125 Angers in 2021.(Source: Tennis House Author: Barbie)
