Vũ Hà Minh Đức and his teammates showcased an excellent display in the last round of the group stage at the 2026 Davis Cup Group III Asia-Oceania zone.
The Vietnamese tennis team secured their first win at the 2026 Davis Cup Group III Asia-Oceania zone, which is currently taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from July 15 to 18.
Accordingly, captain Trương Quốc Bảo and his players impressively overcame the hosts Malaysia with brilliant performances from Nguyễn Đại Khánh and Vũ Hà Minh Đức.
Both sides made surprising adjustments before entering the decisive matches in Group B. Captain Quốc Bảo started with Đại Khánh instead of Phạm La Hoàng Anh, who was not in optimal physical condition after the previous two matches., while Minh Đức's position remained unchanged. On the Malaysian side, the hosts also left out their two biggest stars: Koay Hao Sheng and Darrshan Kumar, replacing them with Naufal Siddiq and Imran Abdul Hazli.
In the first singles match, Đại Khánh delivered a stunning performance against Siddiq. After losing the first set 3-6, he did not freeze up; his powerful forehand shots helped the Vietnamese representative win the second set 6-0. Siddiq had to call for medical assistance multiple times, was unable to move freely, and lost the third set 6-2 decisively. Vietnam took a 1-0 lead and gained a significant advantage.
The second singles match followed a similar pattern. Vũ Hà Minh Đức lost the tie-break and fell behind, but as the match progressed, his superior skill and stamina became evident. In particular, during the third set, Hazli could barely run to retrieve difficult shots from Vietnam's top player.
Ultimately, Minh Đức won 2-1 (6-7, 6-1, 6-2), sealing the victory over Malaysia without needing to worry about the remaining doubles match between Đại Khánh/Nguyễn Minh Phát and Naufal Siddiq/Koay Hao Sheng (scheduled).
The Vietnamese tennis team will still have to play a relegation playoff against the team that finishes fourth in Group A (Singapore, the Philippines, or Uzbekistan). Only a win will allow Minh Đức and his teammates to remain in the Asia-Oceania Group III for next season.
