The Spanish star is working hard to return just before the final major of the season.
A brief comment from tennis legend Serena Williams on social media has stirred up excitement among fans, sparking speculation that she might partner with Carlos Alcaraz in the mixed doubles at the 2026 US Open.
Recently, Alcaraz shared a series of training photos during his recovery from a wrist injury, along with a caption in Spanish: "Por el buen camino" (translated as "On the right track"). The post quickly drew attention when Serena Williams left a short comment: "They are not ready".
Although just a few words, the message from the former world number one immediately triggered widespread speculation, especially amid rumors that Serena and Carlitos could join forces in the mixed doubles at Flushing Meadows this year.
As of now, the US Open organizers have not released the official list of pairings. However, multiple sources suggest that the tournament continues to aim for attracting top stars in mixed doubles, following the success of the new format introduced last year.
According to circulating reports, Serena Williams may pair up with Alcaraz, while her sister Venus Williams is expected to team up with current world number one Jannik Sinner. If realized, these would be particularly appealing matchups for fans.
The US Open has moved the mixed doubles schedule to the opening week and significantly increased the prize money to attract top singles players rather than just doubles specialists. Last season, Carlos Alcaraz played alongside Emma Raducanu, while Venus Williams partnered with Reilly Opelka. The title ultimately went to the experienced doubles duo of Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.
For Alcaraz, the US Open is also expected to mark his comeback after months of rehabilitation. The Spanish player has not competed since sustaining a wrist injury at the Barcelona Open in April, which caused him to miss both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
