WTA Dubai: Andreeva beats Swiatek for the first time and will face Rybakina for the right to the final

On February 20, local time, the 2025 WTA Dubai Station launched the women's singles quarterfinals, with No. 6 seed Rybakina, No. 12 seed Andreyeva, No. 14 seed Mukhova and Tao Sen defeating their respective opponents and successfully reaching the semifinals.

Andreyeva

This is the second time in Andreyeva's career that she has faced Swiatek across the net. Andreeva played well throughout the match, winning five games in a row from 1-3 down in the second set to win her first match against Swiatek in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Meanwhile, this is the first time in Andreeva's career that she has reached the semi-finals of the Women's Singles in the WTA1000, and at just 17 years old, she became the youngest semi-finalist in the history of the tournament in Dubai.

Rybakina

Andreeva's opponent in the semifinals will be No. 6 seed Rybakina. In the quarter-finals, Rybakina hit 17 aces in the match, defeating former Australian Open women's singles champion Kenin 6-2, 7-6(2), maintaining a three-match win against the latter, and reaching the semi-finals for the first time in five years, which is also the ninth time in her career that she has reached the semi-finals of the WTA1000 tournament (previous semi-final record: 5-3).

Towson

Two unseeded players, Taussen and Noskova, are battling it out for a place in the semi-finals. World No.1 Tauson was beaten in the second round to take a 7-6(4) lead from 3-5 down in the first set to take Noskova's three set points to a tie-break. In the second set, Towson broke serve in the seventh game to win the match 7-6(4)/6-4. This is the first time in her career that Towson has reached the semi-finals of the Women's Singles in the WTA1000, and after acquiring 390 points, she jumped to No.27 in the instant ranking and will set a new personal best ranking next week.

Mukhova

Towson will face 14th seed Mukhova in the semi-finals. Mukhova needed 92 minutes to defeat wildcard holder Kostya 6-2, 7-5 to claim her fifth victory over the latter and reach the semi-finals of the Women's Singles in WTA1000 for the third time in her career. In the previous two WTA1000 semi-finals (Cincinnati 2023 and China Open 2024), Mukhova ended up finishing runner-up in the women's singles.
