WTA Dubai: Zheng Qinwen was reversed by Stearns in a hard-fought battle, and a win in the Middle East season is hard to find

On February 19, Beijing time, the 2025 WTA Dubai Station continued to compete for the second round of women's singles. The seventh seed, China's Zheng Qinwen, was postponed due to the rain, and she was eventually knocked out 6-3, 4-6, 4-6 by American Stearns, who won one of the two tournaments she competed in the Middle East.

 Zheng Qinwen

Zheng Qinwen has struggled with injuries this season and is still wearing a protective armband on her right arm in this game. In the first set, Zheng Qinwen took the lead in the opening game to complete the break and take the lead 6-3. However, Zheng Qinwen's unforced errors spiked in the second two sets, and although she landed 12 aces throughout the match, she couldn't find a good way to deal with her opponent's serve, losing two sets in a row 4-6, 4-6, and stopped there.

Zheng Qinwen reached the quarterfinals of the women's singles last year, and after her first match, she will lose 205 ranking points and immediately rank No. 8. Since Navarro and Bardosa, who are ranked behind Zheng Qinwen, have already broken into the top 16 at this station, they have narrowed the gap between them and Zheng Qinwen to within 100 points. Later, Stearns, M. Andreeva, Navarro and Costia will return to the field for a place in the quarter-finals.
