On March 21 in the early morning Beijing time, the ATP 1000 Miami Masters featured a key match on the fourth day between top seed Alcaraz and Brazil's popular rising star Fonseca. After a fierce two-set battle, the world number one secured a solid victory with scores of 6-4/6-4, and will next face local player Korda.

Alcaraz and Fonseca
After the match, Alcaraz commented: "It felt like he (Fonseca) could hit winners from anywhere on the court, which was the most surprising aspect for me. His shots were precise and powerful, and I knew his capabilities well." He also compared this match to his 2021 Madrid loss against Nadal: "Even though I was thoroughly defeated then, it was very meaningful for me." One year later, Alcaraz defeated the Spanish legend in the same tournament.
"At the start of the match, he (Alcaraz) was under pressure just like me, but my serve wasn't in good form, while his returns on second serves were excellent. I could clearly sense him becoming more comfortable on court. He achieved early breaks in both sets, and afterwards he just played at his own rhythm, hitting accurately and frequently coming to the net." Analyzing the match, Fonseca said, "Previous match experience indeed helped me step onto the court without fear and try to play my style, but I couldn't seize the opportunities I had, and he played really well. He is the world number one; I need to reflect on my mistakes and keep improving."
Fonseca and Alcaraz had faced each other in an exhibition match during the off-season. Discussing the experience of both matches, Fonseca reflected: "The atmosphere of an exhibition match differs from a real competition; he faced more pressure today, and of course I did too. He excels at disrupting opponents' rhythm—slice shots, topspin, wide-angle strikes... almost everything. You can never predict what he will do next."
"That's the difficulty of playing against him; you have to play almost perfectly to win. I gave my full effort and tried to create chances, but whenever I had break points, either I missed the return or his serve was too good—those opportunities I shouldn't have missed. Overall, though, it was a great match, and these were key reasons why he won today."
Fonseca lost to Sinner in Indian Wells and to Alcaraz in Miami. He stated that these matches against the best current players help him understand different playing styles. "I think Alcaraz has a richer arsenal than Sinner, while Sinner is more like a robot—hitting fiercely and doing everything perfectly. Alcaraz can play topspin, hit powerful shots, move flexibly, and also come to the net; he's a versatile player, so it's hard to predict his rhythm, and he often disrupts yours."

Fonseca
"The crowd was so enthusiastic! Playing against a strong, charismatic player who can energize the whole audience is always a great experience." Although he didn't advance further in Miami, Fonseca was undoubtedly a crowd favorite at this venue. The "double Alcaraz-Fonseca showdown" attracted over 17,000 spectators, setting a tournament record.
"I think about 60% of the crowd supported me, maybe 70% to 30% haha. Anyway, the atmosphere was fantastic, and everyone also respected Carlos. The match was enjoyable, very entertaining, and I believe the spectators enjoyed watching it too."
