As one of the highest-level tournaments on the tour each March, the Indian Wells and Miami events consistently attract a host of top players. These tournaments have historically been venues where Chinese players perform well; last year, Chinese star Zheng Qinwen successively reached the women's singles quarterfinals at both Indian Wells and Miami.
However, this season Chinese players suffered a "Waterloo" at Indian Wells. In women's singles, Zhang Shuai, Wang Xinyu, and Zheng Qinwen entered directly based on world rankings, but all three regrettably halted in their first matches. Veteran Zhang Shuai lost in the first round to Yastremska, while Wang Xinyu and Zheng Qinwen, as seeded players, enjoyed bye rounds but were eliminated in their debut second-round matches by Tomljanovic and Ruzic respectively. In men's singles main draw, no male player from mainland China participated.

Moving to the Miami tournament, although matches were suspended due to rain in the initial days, victory continues to prove extremely difficult for the Chinese players who have already appeared in the singles main draw.
In men's singles, two players Zhang Zhizhen and Wu Yibing participated. Zhang Zhizhen lost in the first round to French player Mannarino with scores 3-6, 2-6, missing the second round. He is currently facing a three-match losing streak on tour, with only 3 wins and 5 losses this season, and his world ranking has dropped to No. 255.

Wu Yibing, who entered the main draw directly with a wild card, also failed to advance. In his men's singles debut concluded early today, he lost to Diallo with scores 2-6, 6-7, likewise missing the next round.
Wu Yibing's current world ranking is also low, standing at No. 116. In this match, the opponent's height over two meters posed significant pressure. After a sluggish first-set loss, his ability to capitalize on break points in the second set was lacking, ultimately failing to achieve a comeback.

Veteran Zhang Shuai was eliminated earlier by Cirstea. Currently, she and partner Mertens remain in the women's doubles draw. Additionally, Wang Xinyu, as the 29th seed in this Miami tournament, lost in the second round to American local player McNally with scores 4-6, 6-1, 0-6, now facing a four-match losing streak in singles.
With Wang Xinyu's exit, Zheng Qinwen, who has not yet debuted, remains the sole Chinese player in this Miami tournament. Her match, originally scheduled for early today, continues to be postponed due to rain. Her second-round opponent is former US Open women's singles champion Stephens.

This will be the first hard-court encounter between Zheng Qinwen and Stephens. They previously had two clay-court meetings, both won by Zheng Qinwen. We anticipate her securing the first singles main draw victory for the Chinese contingent in this year's North American Sunshine Double!(Source: Tennis Home Author: Barbie)
