WTA Miami Open: Zheng Qinwen's debut postponed due to rain, Wang Xinyu struggles to secure a win in the Sunshine Double.

On March 20 local time, the fourth day of competition unfolded at the 2026 ATP/WTA 1000 Miami Open. Among the three Chinese players scheduled for their debut matches, only Wang Xinyu and Wu Yibing completed their matches successfully. Zheng Qinwen's match against former US Open champion Stephens was postponed to the next day due to rain.

Wang Xinyu faced local favorite McNally on Court 2. After a three-set battle, she lost 4-6, 6-1, 0-6, ending with a bagel defeat and failing to secure a win in the Sunshine Double, marking her fourth consecutive singles loss on tour. The two players had met earlier this season at the WTA 250 Auckland Open in the first week, where Wang Xinyu narrowly won in three sets and eventually reached the final, finishing as runner-up.

In this match, McNally took the initiative in the first set, winning 6-4. In the second set, Wang Xinyu secured a break and held off her opponent's comeback to level the score at 6-1. In the decisive third set, Wang Xinyu started her first return game at 30-0, but after McNally saved the situation and held serve, Wang found herself under pressure in her own service game. After five deuces in a fierce exchange, McNally converted her first break point opportunity. Wang Xinyu's form then sharply declined, leading to a bitter defeat.

After her first-round exit, Wang Xinyu's live ranking points stand at 1383. Zheng Qinwen, who has yet to play her first match, currently has 1348 points. This means that if Zheng can secure a victory in tomorrow's match, she will maintain her position as China's top-ranked female player in the official WTA world rankings released after the Miami Open.

In other women's singles matches, top-seeded players all successfully secured opening victories. World No. 1 Sabalenka defeated local player Jinnie Lee 7-6(5), 6-4 and will face McNally, who eliminated Wang Xinyu, in the next round. No. 4 seed Gauff fought through three sets to reverse her fortunes, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 against Italian player Cocaretto. No. 6 seed Anisimova narrowly defeated Tomljanovic 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. No. 7 seed Paulini eliminated Townsend 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. No. 9 seed Svitolina defeated E. Jones 6-2, 6-4. No. 10 seed Mboko swept past Blinkova 6-2, 6-0.

Tomorrow's Schedule.

On March 21, Zheng Qinwen will face Stephens on Court 2 at 1:00 AM Beijing time. On the center court, Pegula, Sinner, and Medvedev will appear in the day session, while the American showdown between Gauff and Parks, and the match between Zverev and local wildcard entry Dam will ignite the night session.
