Sinner's doping case has settled in advance, and he will be banned for three months!
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has confirmed that it has been directed against Italian tennis playersYannick SinnerA settlement agreement was reached. Sinner received a three-month ban for anti-doping violations.
In March 2024, Sinner tested positive for closstib, a banned substance.
In September, the World Anti-Doping Agency appealed Sinner's case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Previously, an independent tribunal had found that Sinner was not at fault or negligent.
CAS was scheduled to hear Sinner's case on April 16-17.
At this time, WADA is preparing to reach a settlement agreement pursuant to Article 10.8.2 of the World Anti-Doping Code.
WADA accepts the athlete's explanation of the reasons for the violation in the first instance ruling. WADA acknowledges that Mr. Sinner had no intention of cheating, and that his exposure to clostib did not provide any performance-enhancing benefits, and that he was unaware of the negligence of his entourage. However, under the Regulations and the precedent of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the athlete is liable for the negligence of the entourage. Based on a unique set of facts in this case,A three-month ban is considered appropriate.As previously stated, WADA, in addition to requesting the annulment of the results previously made by the arbitral tribunal of first instance,No other results have been sought to be cancelled.
Under the terms of the agreement, Mr. Sinner's ban will begin on February 9, 2025, and end at 11:59 p.m. on May 4, 2025(This includes the athlete's previous 4 days of provisional ban). In accordance with section 10.14.2 of the Regulations, Mr. Sinner may resume official training activities from 13 April 2025.
In view of the fact that a case settlement agreement has been reached, WADA has formally withdrawn its appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
