ATP Indian Wells: Alcaraz avenges Norrie, Medvedev defeats defending champion Draper

On March 13, Beijing time, the 2026 ATP/WTA Indian Wells tournament held the singles quarterfinal matches, determining the semifinal lineup. Two-time tournament champion and top seed Alcaraz defeated British player Norrie 6-3/6-4, avenging his loss at last year's Paris Masters. In today's match, Alcaraz smoothly won the first set, though he trailed 0-2 early in the second set. He then raised his level again, winning four consecutive games to establish an advantage, and ultimately secured victory on his fourth match point.

Alcaraz

This marks Alcaraz's 16th consecutive win of the season. In the semifinals, he will face 11th seed Medvedev, who eliminated defending champion Draper in straight sets 6-1/7-5 in the quarterfinals. Both of Alcaraz's previous title wins at this tournament came in finals against Medvedev; their overall head-to-head record stands at 6-2 in favor of Alcaraz.

Medvedev

Draper, perhaps hampered by the immense exertion from yesterday's intense battle with Djokovic, appeared somewhat fatigued in the quarterfinal. When the second set reached 5-5, he questioned a ball's landing spot during a rally, making a gesture of disbelief, but the electronic line calling system ruled it in, and the rally continued for two more shots before Medvedev lost the point. Medvedev immediately requested a challenge, arguing that Draper's gesture constituted interference. Ultimately, the point was awarded to Medvedev, which became a crucial turning point altering the course of this set.

Zverev

Fourth seed Zverev, who played first, advanced easily, defeating French talent Fils 6-2/6-3 to reach the semifinals at this tournament for the first time in his career. With this, Zverev also unlocked a significant achievement: he became the fifth player, after Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, and Murray, to reach the semifinals in all nine ATP Masters tournaments. Currently, Zverev's best results at Indian Wells and Monte Carlo are semifinal appearances, while he has reached the finals in Miami and Shanghai; he has won titles at all other Masters events.

Sinner

Zverev's semifinal opponent will be second seed Sinner, who needed only 66 minutes to sweep past local favorite and 25th seed Lerner Qian 6-1/6-2. This is Sinner's third career semifinal appearance at this tournament; his previous two attempts ended in semifinal defeats (both to Alcaraz). This year, he aims to reach the final for the first time and compete for the title, striving to complete the set of all hardcourt Masters championships!
