On Monday, local time, the first and second rounds of women's singles were held in Doha, WTA1000. Second seed and three-time champion Swiatek advanced to the round of 16 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Greece's Sakkari, who was broken in the first set to fall behind 2-3 but then won eight games in a row to set off the winner between Noskova and Putintseva in the third round.
Ninth seed Badosa needed one hour and 47 minutes to win his first match since the last four of the Australian Open, beating Mexico's lucky loser Zarazuha 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, and will face Anisimova in the second round. Badosa's original first-round opponent was Czech Republic's Siniakova, who withdrew due to a left hamstring injury.
In a clash between two former top 10 players, Svitolina came back from behind to beat Vondrousova 0-6, 6-2, 7-5 to face sixth seed Pegula in the second round. There have been six meetings between Svitolina and Pegula, with Pegula holding the upper hand with 4 wins and 2 losses.
Canada's Fernandez needed just 66 minutes to defeat eighth seed Navarro 6-2, 6-2 to claim his eighth career Top 10 victory and extend his head-to-head record with Navarro to 3-1. American Stearns eliminated Yastremska 7-5, 6-3 and will face fifth seed Rybakina in the second round.
China's Wang Xinyu/Zheng Saisai lost 6-7(4), 5-7 to sixth seeds Mertens/Sergio Pérez in the Women's Doubles first round, while Zhang Shuai/Mladenovic lost 1-6, 4-6 to Panova/Stora.
