WTA Abu Dhabi: Bencic defeated Kruger to win his first comeback title

On February 8, local time, the 2025 WTA Abu Dhabi finals came to an end. In the Women's Singles final, the wild card Tokyo Olympic women's singles gold medallist and Swiss star Bencic defeated American rising star Kruger 4-6/6-1/6-1 to win the fourth WTA Tour event after his postpartum comeback.

In this match, Kruger was hot in the first set, and the high-quality attack made Bencic unable to parry the service game, and she took a 6-4 lead with an extra break advantage. From the second set, Bencic used his good point line change to mobilize the opponent, and Kruger, who had been unable to attack for a long time, gradually fell into a passive situation. In the end, Bencic successfully reversed the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 to lift the Women's Singles title in Abu Dhabi for the second time.

After the game, Bencic's daughter, Bella, came to the court to celebrate the victory with her. Speaking at the ceremony, Bencic shared: "It's been a while since I last came to Abu Dhabi and I'm still emotional. I trained hard to come back and it was really special to be able to win in front of my family. Thank you to my coaching team for their support throughout the week, and to my husband and daughter, it has always been my dream to play and win championships in the presence of my daughter. It's the first event I've won twice, so it's going to be my favourite. ”

In the 2023 WTA Abu Dhabi tournament, Bencic defeated Kostyuk, Rodgers, Maya and Samsonova to win the championship, and after winning five consecutive victories for the second time, she also maintained her undefeated gold in the women's singles tournament. After 500 points and $164,000 in prize money, Bencic jumped from No.157 to No.65 in the world rankings, returning to the top 100 after half a year!
