What tennis records did Djokovic unlock at the Australian Open?

Djokovic fought a tough four-set match against Alcaraz in the Australian Open final, ultimately falling short of his 25th Grand Slam trophy. Yet, this tennis icon still left behind a tournament at Melbourne Park that will be remembered in the annals of the sport.

Over the course of the two-week competition, Djokovic kept rewriting history and shattering various records. The ATP official site summarized five significant milestones reached by the 38-year-old champion at the year’s opening Grand Slam.

All-time leader in Australian Open match wins

After reaching the Australian Open final, Djokovic’s total match wins at Melbourne Park rose to 104, placing him at the top of the men’s and women’s singles history list, surpassing Roger Federer’s career tally of 102 wins at the event.

He also holds over 100 wins at three Grand Slam tournaments — the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon — making him the only player in history to achieve this feat.

Top 5 Australian Open singles match wins:

1. Novak Djokovic – 104 wins

2. Roger Federer – 102 wins

3. Serena Williams – 92 wins

4. Rafael Nadal – 77 wins

5. Margaret Court – 60 wins

First player in history to surpass 400 Grand Slam match wins

Already holding the record for most Grand Slam singles match wins, Djokovic reached another milestone at this Australian Open: becoming the first player ever to exceed 400 Grand Slam victories. By the end of the tournament, his total stood at 402 wins. Federer ranks second historically with 369 wins, followed closely by Serena Williams with 367.

Oldest Australian Open finalist in the Open Era

At 38 years old, Djokovic broke Ken Rosewall’s record to become the oldest male singles finalist at the Australian Open in the Open Era. The Australian legend had previously reached the final in 1972 at age 37.

New record for most Grand Slam final appearances

Djokovic had already held the all-time record with 37 Grand Slam final appearances. This Australian Open marked his 38th, further extending his lead. Since the 2023 Wimbledon, he has been the sole leader in this category, with Chris Evert second at 34 finals.

Most Grand Slam finals after age 35 in the Open Era

This was Djokovic’s seventh Grand Slam final appearance after turning 35, setting a new Open Era record. Previously, he shared the record of six finals after 35 with Ken Rosewall; Serena Williams follows with five, and Federer with four.
