Carlos Alcaraz continues to look for a new coach following his split with his longtime trainer Juan Carlos Ferrero.
There are growing rumors that the world No. 1 player, Carlos Alcaraz, is targeting Andy Murray for the coaching position in the 2026 season.
Earlier this month, Alcaraz officially announced his departure from Juan Carlos Ferrero, ending one of the most successful coach-player partnerships in modern tennis. Under Ferrero's guidance, Alcaraz won 6 Grand Slam titles, including his second US Open victory this past September against Jannik Sinner.
This success was further recognized when Ferrero and coach Samuel Lopez were awarded the ATP "Coach of the Year." Consequently, the split between Carlitos and JCF came as a major shock to tennis experts.
Currently, Alcaraz has not appointed a permanent head coach. Samuel Lopez is serving as interim coach, while the possibility of Andy Murray—a former tennis star—becoming the Spaniard’s coach in the future continues to attract significant media attention.
Notably, according to Punto de Break, at the end of 2024, Alcaraz’s team considered replacing Ferrero for the first time, with Andy Murray emerging as the leading candidate. The British Grand Slam champion, known for his tactical mindset and top-level playing experience, is seen as the perfect fit to help Alcaraz enhance his composure and consistency in the next phase of his career.
However, this plan did not materialize as Murray chose to join Novak Djokovic’s coaching team ahead of the 2025 Australian Open.
Murray parted ways with Nole after a series of tournaments that did not meet expectations and is very likely to join Alcaraz’s team soon. Another name rumored to become Carlitos’s new coach is Rafael Nadal, although this scenario seems unlikely to happen.
