As a teenager out of the sheath, Coomstadt is eager to get a perfect end to his teenage career

The 2025 Australian Open Junior Tennis Championships are in full swing, with last year's Men's Singles runner-up and top seed Jan Kumstat reaching the quarter-finals of the Men's Singles and partnering Extide in Men's Doubles. Born in January 2007, the Czech turned 18 at the start of the season and is in the final year of his junior tennis career.

From an early age, Kumstadt was regarded as a promising star in Czech tennis, and his achievements at all ages have raised expectations for his tennis career. In 2024, he was selected for the International Tennis Federation World Tennis Tour Junior Year-end Finals in Chengdu, where he finished eighth.

At the 2024 Australian Open, Coomstadt eliminated Zhang Tianhui, Hayden Jones and other good players in his first junior Grand Slam trip to reach the men's singles final. In the final, Kumstadt hit 25 aces in the whole game, and at one point was just two points away from winning the title, but was defeated 6-3, 6-7(2), 5-7 by Japan's Rei Sakamoto.

Kumstadt's youth career has not been smooth sailing, with last year's Australian Open final defeat haunting him, and although he finished runners-up in men's doubles with his partner at Wimbledon, injuries forced him to miss the French Open and US Open, which did not match his own expectations.

Returning to Melbourne Park after a year, the most obvious change in Coomstadt came from his height, and he couldn't hide his youth in an interview: "I think I've grown five or six centimeters taller, and now I'm 198-199 centimeters tall." At this year's Australian Open, Kumstadt saved a set point in the second round of singles to defeat Cruz Hewitt, the son of Australian tennis legend Layton Hewitt, who was playing at home. Kumstadt was thrilled after winning the Men's Doubles title: "Thank you to my partner, coach and everyone who has helped me on my tennis journey, it's amazing to win this title in Australia. ”
