Juan Carlos Ferrero asserts: 'Alcaraz will not lose his way'

There is significant public doubt about the Spanish player's ability to maintain his dominant position in the 2026 season.

Following the announcement of the split between coach Juan Carlos Ferrero and the star Carlos Alcaraz the public is questioning the Spanish player's chances of sustaining his dominance.

As the key figure who helped Alcaraz reach the top of the world rankings, Ferrero's views on his former protégé's future are drawing special attention from experts and fans alike.

In an interview with Radio Nacional de Españathe 45-year-old strategist praised Alcaraz and affirmed that the player will not lose direction. Ferrero emphasized that Alcaraz's fierce competitive spirit is the key to his future stability.

“He won’t lose his way because I know him very well and he understands what is good for him and what is not. Carlos loves to compete; he enjoys playing tournaments and fighting for major titles, and I don’t see him getting bored of tennis,"the former world No. 1 confirmed.

In response to doubts that Alcaraz lacks motivation or feels tennis is a burden, Ferrero completely denies these rumors. He states that Alcaraz has a deep passion for competing and his desire to win big titles remains intact.

According to the Spanish coach, boredom might only appear after 10 or 12 years, but currently, Alcaraz is at his psychological peak. Although their partnership ended just before the 2026 Australian Open, Ferrero still believes in Alcaraz’s ability to win.

He asserts that his former student has the resilience to overcome coaching changes and aim for the Grand Slam title at the start of the year.

Alcaraz’s immediate challenge is to build rapport with his new coach, Lopez. Ferrero acknowledges that developing the "chemistry" between athlete and new partner takes time but believes the adaptation will be swift given their high level of expertise.
