Djokovic’s journey to becoming a ten-time Australian Open champion, from age 21 to 36

Prior to Djokovic’s maiden Australian Open triumph in 2008, Federer had secured the championship three times at Melbourne in 2004, 2006, and 2007. Meanwhile, Safin captured the title in 2005.

In 2008, Djokovic won the Australian Open, earning his first Masters tournament title at under 21 years old.

During the following two years (2009–2010), Djokovic often struggled with gluten intolerance, leading to multiple match retirements. It wasn’t until a Serbian doctor watching the matches noticed Djokovic’s symptoms and suspected a skin allergy rather than a respiratory issue that he was diagnosed. After adopting a strict gluten-free diet, Djokovic successfully overcame his gluten sensitivity. During these two years, the Australian Open titles were won by Federer and Nadal respectively.

From 2011 to 2013, Djokovic achieved a three-year consecutive winning streak at the Australian Open. In 2014, Wawrinka ended Djokovic’s reign as champion.

In 2015 and 2016, Djokovic reached the peak of his career, securing back-to-back Australian Open titles.

Between 2017 and 2018, Djokovic was plagued by injuries. Federer ended a four-year Grand Slam drought by winning two major titles, including his sixth Australian Open, without Nadal sharing any of those victories.

From 2019 to 2021, Djokovic bounced back strongly, with his main rivals shifting to players like Thiem and other members of the “Next Gen” group.

At the 2022 Australian Open, despite receiving a “medical exemption,” Djokovic was deported, which paved the way for Nadal to claim his second Australian Open title, making him the all-time leader with 21 Grand Slam trophies.

In 2023, Djokovic made a remarkable comeback to win his tenth Australian Open title at the age of 36.

During 2024 and 2025, Djokovic appeared somewhat uncertain and fatigued, with his main competitors becoming Sinner and Alcaraz.

In 2026, at 38 years old, Djokovic is training actively with clear goals. Will he be able to capture the 25th Grand Slam title of his career at the Australian Open?

One week remains until the new season begins.

Two weeks left before Djokovic starts the new season.

Three weeks to go until the 2026 Australian Open.

Come on, Djokovic, keep pushing!!

I recently found this photo for the first time and think it’s Djokovic’s most handsome picture. Does anyone recognize this moment?
