The only Vietnamese tennis player listed on the global tennis rankings

Following Lý Hoàng Nam’s temporary break from professional tennis, this is now the greatest hope for tennis in Vietnam.

The current number one Vietnamese tennis player - Vũ Hà Minh Đức dropped two places in the latest ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) ranking update on December 22.

Accordingly, Minh Đức slipped to the 1,756th position worldwide with only 2 ranking points. He remains the sole Vietnamese player featured on the global tennis rankings at present.

Previously, Lý Hoàng Nam was one of the few players regularly competing in professional tournaments and held rankings between 300 and 600 worldwide, but since he temporarily paused his professional tennis career to switch to playing pickleball, Hoàng Nam’s name has disappeared from the world rankings.

Vũ Hà Minh Đức is now the greatest hope for Vietnamese tennis after Hoàng Nam, Trịnh Linh Giang, and to some extent Nguyễn Văn Phương have taken different directions. The Hanoi-born player is fully dedicated to his tennis career, striving to compete in ITF World Tennis Tour qualifiers and has finally reaped rewards.

In the two M15 Kuala Lumpur tournaments held in November 2025, Minh Đức reached the round of 16 in both events, accumulating valuable 2 professional points. This will serve as an important foundation for the reigning national tennis champion to keep pushing for better results in 2026.

Born in 2002, Vũ Hà Minh Đức was once a player for the famous Hải Đăng Tây Ninh Tennis Club before transferring to AP Sports Club. Since 2023, the national men’s singles tennis title has been firmly in Minh Đức’s hands due to his superior skill level.

He has represented Vietnam’s Davis Cup team since 2021, playing 14 matches with a record of 3 wins and 11 losses (according to Davis Cup official statistics). Minh Đức was also a key player for Vietnam’s tennis team at the recent SEA Games 33 but has yet to make a significant impact.
