Boots have landed, Alcaraz finalizes new coach for the 2026 season

Carlos Alcaraz has finalized his decision on the head coach for the 2026 season, closing the chapter on speculation about the new mentor for the world’s top-ranked player.

Following the end of his partnership with the esteemed coach Ferrero, Alcaraz’s team announced that Samuel López, a graduate of the Ferrero Tennis Academy who joined the coaching staff at the start of this year, will be elevated to head coach. Despite rumors that López was a temporary appointment, several coaches expressed interest in leading the six-time Grand Slam champion. Nevertheless, Alcaraz’s team has firmly declined all offers and confirmed that “unless unforeseen circumstances arise, Samuel López will officially succeed Ferrero as head coach,” aiming to maintain the current coaching stability.

Alcaraz’s former coach, Kiko Navarro, believes the team might need to add another member to help manage the pressures of travel and the long season. This new addition might be a more prominent figure but will not challenge López’s position as head coach. Navarro even stated, “Even without consulting Alcaraz’s father, I’m confident that Samuel López remains the head coach.” Currently, Alcaraz has begun his preseason training at the Ferrero Tennis Academy and, apart from Ferrero, will continue with last year’s coaching team for the upcoming season.

Does this decision suggest that Alcaraz might reunite with Ferrero again at a suitable time in the future?

I believe it is very likely.
