David Ferrer once discussed the possibility of coaching Carlos Alcaraz.

Following Alcaraz's split with his experienced coach Ferrero, attention quickly turned to “who would be the ideal replacement for Ferrero?” Although opinions varied, most attention centered on two names: David Ferrer and Moya.

Interestingly, earlier this season, Ferrer was interviewed by Eurosport and was asked:

If Ferrero were to leave, would he consider coaching Alcaraz?

At that time, he replied:

I don’t know. I never make long-term plans; life is made up of different phases, and we must learn when to start and when to end a journey. This is a lesson I have deeply understood.

As for Carlos,I believe his current team setup is very solid. He is supported by Juan Carlos and Samuel, and his family is always by his side, providing all the necessary support within reach.

Could I coach him?To give a definite yes right now would be somewhat arrogant. I have great admiration for Carlos.

Watching him play in the Davis Cupalways brings me immense joy. His unique aura often reminds me of Rafa (Nadal). I really enjoy that feeling, but I have to say, Carlos is well taken care of these days.

Ferrer, the current captain of Spain’s Davis Cup team, has only had one coaching experience since retiring in 2019.

In July 2020, the former world No. 3 joined Zverev’s coaching team, but their collaboration ended in January 2021.

Although Ferrer’s coaching career is not extensive, many in the tennis world currently consider him and Carlos Moya as the top two candidates to become Alcaraz’s new coach.
