Rumors circulate that Alcaraz has become a disciple of Nadal

Carlos Alcaraz has ended his collaboration with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, with Rafael Nadal considered among the possible successors to fill the coaching position.

Carlos Alcaraz’s decision to separate from coach Juan Carlos Ferrero continues to send shockwaves through the global tennis community, as the future coaching team of the Spanish player becomes a hot topic of discussion. The sudden end of the partnership with the coach who has supported him since the start of his career has surprised experts, especially given that the split occurred just weeks before the Australian Open.

According to several sources, coach Samuel Lopez is likely to temporarily lead Carlitos’s team during preparations for the year’s first Grand Slam. However, this is seen as a short-term solution, as the current world No.1 is reportedly considering a longer-term plan involving a highly experienced and reputable coach.

A list of potential candidates quickly emerged. Spain’s Davis Cup captain David Ferrer is seen as a reasonable choice due to his deep understanding of top-level tennis and strong connections within Spanish tennis. Additionally, former world No.1 Carlos Moya is also mentioned as a serious contender.

However, the most attention-grabbing name is Rafael Nadal. The 22-time Grand Slam champion legend is believed to have a close relationship with Alcaraz, especially after they partnered in doubles at the Paris Olympics last year. The prospect of Nadal returning to tennis as a coach for his fellow countryman immediately attracted significant interest from fans.

Nevertheless, former British No.1 Greg Rusedski believes this scenario is unlikely to happen. Speaking on the podcast Off Court with Greg, Rusedski stated that Nadal is enjoying life after retirement and lacks motivation to return to the demanding routine of professional tennis. According to him, the constant weekly travel does not suit Nadal’s current situation, especially since he now has a family with two young children.

Rusedski also raised serious doubts about the real reasons behind Alcaraz’s split with Ferrero. He suggested it is more likely due to disagreements in their working relationship rather than financial issues. The timing of the split is seen as puzzling, since shortly before, Ferrero had been honored as Coach of the Year and Alcaraz recognized as the season’s best player.

According to the former British player, differences in opinions on training, scheduling, and participation in exhibition matches might be the core issues. He believes that if a player feels happy off the court, their performance will improve, and trying to change the personality of a young star like Alcaraz could cause a rift.
