From ATP 250 to 500 to Masters, nine players claimed their first tour titles in 2025.

It is well known that each year brings new talents who often perform well in both tour events and Grand Slams. The 2025 season was no different, with nine players winning their maiden tour titles. So, who are these players? And at which tournaments did they secure their first tour victories? Today, this article will take you through the details.

In early January, French player Miller overcame losing the first set in the opening round of the ATP 250 Hong Kong event to come back and defeat Swiss qualifier Schuessler in three sets. As the saying goes, surviving hardship brings good fortune. Indeed, Miller then defeated Serbia’s Kecmanovic, the tournament’s fourth seed Frenchman Fils, and Spain’s Munar, reaching his second career tour final. In the final, he reversed a deficit to beat former US Open finalist Kei Nishikori from Japan, claiming his first tour title. Notably, all five of Miller’s consecutive wins at the ATP 250 Hong Kong were achieved by coming back from a set down to win in three sets.

In early February, Brazilian player Fonseca appeared at the ATP 250 Buenos Aires event. In the first round, he swept past the tournament’s eighth seed and former Grand Slam quarterfinalist, Argentine Echeverri, advancing comfortably; in the second round, despite dropping the first set, Fonseca rallied to win against lucky loser Argentine Coria, reaching the quarterfinals.

From there, he grew stronger, defeating Argentine Navone and Serbian qualifier Jere to reach his first career tour final. In the final, Fonseca won in straight sets against the tournament’s fifth seed, Argentine Cerundolo, earning his first tour title and becoming the youngest South American ever to win a tour championship.

At the end of February, Czech player Machac competed as the eighth seed at the ATP 500 Acapulco Open. In the first round, he battled through three sets to defeat compatriot Majchrzak and advance; then Machac continued his strong run by beating wildcard German Altmaier, American qualifier Lener-Chien, and American Brandon Nakashima, reaching his second career tour final. In the final, he defeated Spanish player Fokina, who had previously reached a Masters final, in straight sets to claim his first tour title.

In mid-March, Czech player Menšík appeared at the Miami Masters. In the first round, he fought hard in three sets to overcome former Wimbledon semifinalist, Spain’s Agut, advancing to the next round; in the second round, Menšík caused a major upset by winning two tiebreaks against sixth seed British player Draper.

Afterwards, he defeated Russia’s Safiullin, compatriot Machac, French player Fils, and the tournament’s third seed, American Fritz, reaching his first career tour final. In the final, Menšík resisted the challenge from Serbian star Djokovic, winning two tiebreaks to secure his maiden tour title.

In the months that followed, Italian Cobolli won his first tour title at the ATP 250 Bucharest event in late March; American Brooksby at the ATP 250 Houston event also in late March; Canadian Diallo at the early June event in ’s-Hertogenbosch; Monaco’s Vacherot at the Shanghai Masters in late September; and American Lener-Chien at the ATP 250 Metz event in early November, each claiming their first career tour championships.

Their winning streaks have given many young players hope. Moreover, the rise of these nine newcomers adds more intrigue to the competition in the tennis world for the next season. That’s today’s tennis story—more to come tomorrow.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Yixin Jushi)
