2025 ATP Tour Awards Review — Featuring Alcaraz, Djokovic, and Others

The 2025 ATP Tour season was full of excitement, with numerous astonishing storylines and epic battles throughout the year. Here, we recap the season and reveal the recipients of the 2025 ATP Tour awards.

Player of the Year: Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz has long been a standout star on the ATP Tour, and the 22-year-old delivered his best season yet in 2025, setting new personal records.

He claimed Grand Slam titles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, won a total of eight titles during the year, rightfully finishing as the year-end world No. 1 and earning the ATP Player of the Year award.

Match of the Year: Roland Garros Final — Alcaraz def. Sinner 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(2)

The thrilling final between Alcaraz and Sinner at Roland Garros was unanimously voted the best men’s match of the year and is even considered a candidate for one of the greatest matches in history.

Sinner held a two-set lead and had a championship point in the fourth set, seemingly on the verge of winning his first Roland Garros title, but Alcaraz staged a stunning comeback to turn the match around.

Moment of the Year: Djokovic Reaches 100 Career Titles

The men’s tour featured many highlights this season, but Djokovic defied age to remain at the top of the game, making history at the Geneva Open.

He battled hard in the final to defeat Hurkacz, securing not only the tournament title but also his 100th ATP Tour career title, joining an exclusive club alongside Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer.

Most Improved Player: João Fonseca

Born in 2006, this young star started the year ranked outside the top 140 but ended 2025 ranked 24th in the world after an impressive breakthrough season.

The Brazilian won matches at all four Grand Slam events and claimed his first two ATP titles in Buenos Aires and Basel, showing progress faster than nearly all his peers over the past year.

Rookie of the Year: Valentin Vacherot

While the rise of players like Fonseca was somewhat anticipated, no one expected Vacherot to become one of the most talked-about players on the men’s tour.

Starting the year ranked 204th, he barely qualified for the Shanghai Masters but went on a remarkable run to win the title, becoming the lowest-ranked ATP 1000 Masters champion ever — clearly a player to watch in 2026 and beyond.

Coach of the Year: Juan Carlos Ferrero and Samuel Lopez

There were many coaching candidates, but the partnership of Ferrero and Lopez guiding Alcaraz in 2025 deserves special recognition.

Lopez joined forces with Alcaraz’s longtime coach Ferrero early in 2025, and together they developed their protégé into one of the most complete players ever, a fact that intimidates most of Alcaraz’s contemporaries.

Biggest Upset: Valentin Vacherot def. Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-4 (Shanghai Masters Semifinal)

At the 2025 Shanghai Masters, with Alcaraz absent and Sinner retiring in the third round, many expected Djokovic to seize his 41st Masters 1000 title, especially facing Vacherot in the semifinals.

However, the Monaco player delivered the best performance of his career, extending his dream run and causing Djokovic to suffer a physical collapse, securing his first career victory over a top-10 opponent.

Comeback Player of the Year: Jenson Brooksby

Born in 2000, Brooksby started the year ranked outside the top 1000, sidelined for nearly two years due to injury and suspension.

He returned impressively, winning his first ATP title in Houston and reaching the final in Eastbourne, climbing back to No. 53 after a remarkable twelve months. He is a contemporary of Aliassime and Sinner and has competed in the Next Gen ATP Finals.

Future Star: Learner Tien

Tien was one of the most improved and standout players in 2025, an emerging American talent definitely worth watching in the future.

He had a breakthrough year, capturing his first title in Metz and finishing inside the ATP top 30; his unique playing style could become a nightmare for opponents in the coming years — a sword against defensive players and a subtle force against aggressive ones.

Mensek is somewhat unfortunate; he is the only 2005-born player to have won an ATP 1000 Masters title but did not secure any ATP awards in 2025.
