Reviewing the ultimate achievers in men's tennis: Djokovic stands out as the only one!

Athlete rivalries such as "Guan Yu vs. Qin Qiong" have long been a favorite topic among fans. Roddick recently remarked that tennis players are the most capable athletes globally, as they endure sustained high pressure for matches lasting four to five hours.

So, when we assess men's tennis based on five key historical achievements—Career Grand Slam, World No.1 ranking, Year-end Finals title, Olympic Gold medal, and Masters 1000 Gold—who has achieved the most? Who fell just short?

Among these five achievements, only one player has claimed them all: Djokovic. The two hardest to obtain were the Masters 1000 title and the Olympic Gold. In 2018, he defeated Federer to win the Cincinnati Masters, completing the set of nine Masters titles. Last year, during his fifth Olympic appearance, he finally secured the gold medal.

Missing one out of five: Agassi (no Masters 1000 Gold)

Despite winning only eight Grand Slam titles in his career, Agassi completed the Career Grand Slam, demonstrating great efficiency. He also won an Olympic singles gold medal and, together with his wife Graf, formed a celebrated tennis couple. Although he achieved significant success in Masters tournaments, he never secured the elusive Masters 1000 Gold.

Missing two out of five:

Federer (no Masters 1000 Gold and no Olympic singles gold)

Nadal (no Year-end Finals title and no Masters 1000 Gold)

Murray (no Career Grand Slam and no Masters 1000 Gold)

The other three members of the Big Four each missed two achievements to complete the full set. The Masters 1000 Gold is the common gap. Federer’s best Olympic result was a silver medal in 2012 after losing to Murray, but he did win a doubles gold in 2008, somewhat compensating for the singles shortfall.

Due to Nadal's playing style, he often enters the season's end battered and injured, making the Year-end Finals title an unattainable goal for him.

As for Murray, he reached the Australian Open final six times in his career but never won, while the French Open became Djokovic’s stage for completing his Career Grand Slam.

These are the retired legends. Among active players, several have achieved two of these milestones:

Zverev (Year-end Finals and Olympic Gold)

Sinner (Year-end Finals and World No.1)

Medvedev (Year-end Finals and World No.1)

Following Federer and Djokovic, these three have all won the Year-end Finals title. Zverev also won the Olympic singles gold during his peak year in 2021. Medvedev and Sinner are still chasing the full set, with the Masters 1000 Gold likely being the hardest to obtain. Another notable player, Alcaraz, has only reached World No.1 so far.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Luo Cheng Qi Ye)
