2025 Australian Open: Sabalenka swept to advance, Gauff reversed Bencic strongly

On January 19, Beijing time, the 2025 Australian Open tennis tournament began the eighth day of competition, and the fourth round of the women's singles upper half was the first to start.



Two-time defending champion and top seed Sabalenka swept past 14th seed Mila Andreeva 6-1, 6-2 on Rodra Ver Stadium to make it 18 wins in a row at the Australian Open and an 18-match win at a hardcourt Grand Slam. The two sides have met four times before, with Sabalenka winning 3 and losing 1. In this rematch, Sabalenka was full of firepower, and only allowed her opponent to hold serve three times to win the match.




Third seed Gauff faced Swiss star Bencic who had returned from giving birth, and she came back from a set down to win 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for the second year in a row. In the first set, Bencic broke through Gauff's defence with a precise split-point attack, and she seized the opportunity to win the second set on serve to take the next set 7-5. In the second set, Gauff improved the quality of each shot, effectively limiting Bencic's attacking tempo and equalizing the score at 6-2. In the deciding set, Gauff took full control of the game and completed the reversal in the next set 6-1.




11th seed Badosa faced Danilovic, who knocked out 7th seed Pegula in the last round, and knocked out her opponent 6-1, 7-6(2) after falling behind 2-5 in the second set to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for the first time in her career. In the first set, Badosa won the first set 6-1 after winning five games in a row in the opening game. In the second set, Danilovic quickly adjusted her form to take a 5-2 lead, but then she was unable to resist her opponent's attack in the service game and was broken back by Badosa. After the game went to a tie-break, Badosa regained the initiative and won 7-2.




No.27 seed Pavlyuchenkova defeated No.18 seed Vekic 7-6(0), 6-0 to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for the fourth time in her career. Pavlyuchenkova had won both of their previous meetings with Vekic and the pair were evenly matched in the first set, holding on to their serves. The first set went into a tie-break, and Pavlyuchenkova took the lead in raising the gear, playing a wave of offensive attacks that scored seven points in a row to close the first set. In the second set, in the face of the opponent's attack, Vekic looked powerless, and finally Pavlyuchenkova won six games in a row to send eggs 6-0 to advance.
