National Games: Beijing Team Sweeps Both Men’s and Women’s Team Gold Medals, Shang Juncheng Sends Blessings to Zheng Qinwen

On November 12th, Beijing time, the 15th National Games tennis event awarded two gold medals in the youth men’s and women’s team categories. In the youth men’s team final, Beijing defeated Jiangsu 2-1 to claim the championship. This was the first gold medal awarded in the tennis competition at this National Games. Jiangsu took silver, while Hong Kong and Guangxi earned bronze medals.

In the first singles match, Shang Juncheng dominated Tang Jinping with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, securing the first point for Beijing. Shang won all four of his first singles matches in this tournament. Next, in the second singles match, Hu Jia leveled the score for Jiangsu by beating Qi Hongjin 6-3, 6-1. The third doubles match was intensely competitive, with the outcome decided by a match tiebreak. Ultimately, Song Yuqiao and Zhang Boxiong triumphed 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 over Chen Xianfeng and Xu Kuangqing, clinching the win for Beijing.

Zheng Qinwen officially announced her withdrawal from the National Games today. In a post-match interview, Shang Juncheng expressed his blessings and encouragement for Zheng: “She is a good friend of mine; we grew up and trained together. Although she is facing some unfavorable injuries this year, I believe as a top player she will recover quickly and find her rhythm again.”

In the youth women’s team final, Beijing defeated Hubei 2-1 to claim the gold medal, with Hubei taking silver and Zhejiang and Tianjin sharing bronze. Beijing secured both team gold medals in the tennis events of the 15th National Games.

The women’s team final was contested between the top-seeded Beijing team and the third-seeded Hubei team. In the first singles match, Wei Zhangqian came back from behind to defeat Shi Han 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, earning the first point for Hubei. In the second singles match, Shao Yushan leveled the score for Beijing by winning 7-6(1), 6-7(4), 6-1 against Geng Xinle. In the decisive doubles match, Zhang Ruien and Ren Yufei defeated Wu Ruqian and Xu Shuqian 6-2, 6-2 to secure the crucial victory for Beijing.

With the women’s team gold decided, the team events concluded successfully. On November 13th, the first round of men’s and women’s singles matches officially began. Seeded players including Buyun Chaokete, Zhang Zhizhen, Yuan Yue, Zhu Lin, and Guo Hanyu will compete on the center court. The men’s singles third seed Wu Yibing will face Guangdong’s Chen Xingdao on Court 1. Two-time National Games women’s singles champion Wang Qiang from Tianjin will play against Guo Meiqi from Guizhou on Court 3.
