Fritz wins but loses the top spot; Shanghai event awarded the Excellence Standard Prize; Alcaraz teams up with Raducanu again

Three minutes daily to catch up on global tennis news. Hello tennis fans, today is Tuesday, November 11, 2025. Welcome to the midday news report brought to you by "Tennis Home."

Last night Beijing time, the 2025 ATP Finals progressed. In the first round of the Jimmy Connors group singles, last year's finalist and American Fritz played excellently, defeating local favorite Musetti, who replaced Djokovic, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, securing a strong start and leveling their head-to-head record at 3-3.

In the Bjorn Borg group first round, defending champion and local player Sinner also performed steadily, beating Canadian Aliassime 7-5, 6-1. This marked his fourth straight win over Aliassime this season, extended his indoor hardcourt winning streak to 27, and secured a winning start in the group stage. Additionally, this was Sinner’s 11th win at the tournament and his 54th win this season.

Although both Fritz and Sinner won their matches, each lost their titles on Monday. Fritz dropped 800 points from last year’s runner-up finish, causing his world ranking to fall two places and allowing fellow American Shelton to surpass him, turning Fritz from the top American player into second.

Meanwhile, Sinner lost 1500 points from last year’s Finals championship, and the world No.1 spot returned to Spanish star Alcaraz. The battle for the year-end No.1 ranking between Sinner and Alcaraz is still ongoing, but Alcaraz clearly holds the stronger chance.

Doubles John McEnroe group: In the first round, Heliövaara/Paes won convincingly 6-4, 6-4 over C. Harrison/Ivan King, securing a good start. In another match, Salisbury/Skupski defeated Arévalo/Pavić 6-3, 7-5, also claiming a win in their group opener.

Tonight Beijing time, the ATP Finals will continue. On the singles court, American No.2 Fritz will play around 9 PM against top seed Alcaraz. Another match will take place around 3:30 AM tomorrow, featuring Musetti vs. Deminal.

Let’s look at other news. Last night Beijing time, ATP announced that six tournaments ranked highest in the annual player satisfaction survey were awarded the “Excellence Standard Prize.” These include ATP1000: Shanghai Rolex Masters;

ATP500: Dubai and Barcelona; ATP250: Kitzbühel, Almaty, and Stockholm.

Additionally, on December 8 this year, four tennis stars will play an exhibition match in Miami, USA. These players are Spain’s Alcaraz, Brazil’s rising star Fonseca, American Anisimova, and British No.1 Raducanu. The event will feature men’s singles, women’s singles, and mixed doubles, with Alcaraz partnering Raducanu again in mixed doubles, showcasing their close collaboration once more.

Finally, let’s guess and recognize. The following picture shows a player during a match. Without hints, can you identify who he is?

In the last guessing game, some fans gave the correct answer. That’s right, the person in the picture is the Japanese star Naomi Osaka.
