Sinner starts the ATP Finals 2025 campaign successfully

Jannik Sinner, the current ATP Finals titleholder, is showing strong determination to retain his crown and keep his top spot in the world rankings.

Jannik Sinner has kicked off his title defense campaign at the ATP Finals with a convincing 7-5, 6-1 victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime early this morning on November 11 (Vietnam time), in a match where the Canadian player's physical condition clearly affected the outcome.

Returning to Turin with the task of defending his title and 1,500 valuable ATP points, Sinner knows that holding onto the No. 1 world ranking will not be easy, as the final results also depend on Carlos Alcaraz’s form. However, the Italian player demonstrated the composure of a champion by securing a commanding win in his opening match.

The match started evenly, with both players effectively using their first serves. Auger-Aliassime, an indoor court specialist with 7 titles, began strongly and did not give Sinner many chances to break serve. However, towards the end of the first set, Sinner’s pressure caused the Canadian to make errors. A costly mistake by Felix in the 12th game allowed Sinner to take the set 7-5, after winning all points on his first serve.

Jannik Sinner asserted his strength in his first match of this year’s ATP Finals.

After the first set, Auger-Aliassime left the court showing signs of leg pain and returned moving more heavily. Sinner quickly capitalized on this, breaking early to lead 3-0. Although Felix fought hard with great spirit, he needed medical assistance twice in the second set and was unable to maintain his pace. The world No. 1 displayed precision and calmness to close the match with a 6-1 win, completing a smooth start in the Bjorn Borg group.

With this result, Sinner temporarily leads the group and will face Alexander Zverev, who also won his opening match against Ben Shelton. Meanwhile, Auger-Aliassime’s ability to continue playing remains uncertain due to injury. If he cannot return, substitute Alexander Bublik will be called upon to replace him.
