ATP Athens: Musetti continues to pursue year-end hopes, will face Djokovic for the title

On Friday local time, the ATP250 Athens tournament held its semifinal matches. Musetti won to maintain his year-end ambitions and will contest the final against Djokovic.

In the semifinal, Musetti saved a match point and edged out American Korda 6-0, 5-7, 7-5, keeping his hopes alive for a spot at the ATP Finals in Turin. To realize his dream of debuting at this year-end event, the Italian must claim the championship here. According to this year’s ATP Finals draw, whether Musetti or Aliassime qualifies, they will join the Björn Borg group with Sinner, Zverev, and Shelton.

"Both sides played very well in this match," Musetti said after the game. "I am very proud of my attitude and resilience on the court. Reaching the final means a lot to me, and now I will focus all my attention on tomorrow’s final."

This marks Musetti’s eighth appearance in a tour final, where he will face Djokovic for the title. In their head-to-head record, the Serbian star leads 8-1. Musetti is chasing his third career tour title, which would be his first since winning in Naples in 2022.

Djokovic

In the other men’s singles semifinal, top seed Djokovic defeated qualifier Hanfmann 6-3, 6-4, advancing to his 144th career tour final and aiming for his 101st tour title. It remains unconfirmed whether he will participate in this year’s ATP Finals.
