ATP Athens: Djokovic achieves 200 indoor wins, Musetti keeps year-end hopes alive

On Thursday local time, the ATP250 Athens tournament held its quarterfinal matches. Top seed Djokovic earned his 200th career indoor win by overcoming Borges 7-6(1), 6-4 to reach the semifinals. Although the Serbian star missed three break points in the first set, he raised his level at crucial moments to dominate the tiebreak and carried that momentum into the second set, sealing the win in their first-ever meeting after 1 hour and 44 minutes.

"It was a high-intensity battle, and Nuno (Borges) showed great quality," Djokovic said. "His strong performance surprised me a bit. For most of the match, we were evenly matched, with the outcome decided by key points. He deserves applause for his effort." This week, Djokovic is chasing his 101st tour title — having won in Geneva earlier this year, he became the third male player in history to reach the 100-title milestone (Connors 109 titles / Federer 103 titles).

Djokovic’s semifinal opponent will be qualifier Hanfmann, who defeated Giron 7-6(3), 6-4 in straight sets. Djokovic’s current focus remains on this week’s event, despite the ATP Finals group stage draw being announced yesterday, placing him in a group with Alcaraz, Fritz, and Deminal. The Serbian star has yet to decide whether he will participate.

In the other two quarterfinals, second seed Musetti kept his hopes for the year-end event alive by beating fifth seed Miller 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets. He will face American Korda in the semifinals, who won his quarterfinal match 6-3, 6-2 against Kecmanovic.
